Having been through that kind of thing, it’s always bang. No matter how prepared for it you think you are, you never really are. He’s surrounded by friends though, and that’s the best thing you can ask for in that situation.

sometimes I am glad we can’t anticipate every event in life, both good and bad, even though I hate surprises. If we could I think the majority of us, as humans, would crawl into a shell and constantly look at their watches, not living their lives to the fullest, but dreading knowing what is going to happen (for the bad) and getting so impatient for the good stuff, they may make a few things bad happen, but then they would have known about that bad stuff caused by waiting for the good stuff…oh, look, my eyes are crossed now….lol

Man, it’s gonna take Max a while to shake this guilt and the questions of “What if…”, Bob was a good friend to Max and he’s never gonna get completely over this. Now it’s time to focus all his energy and get the rest of them home.

Yes, and this is what all starship captains as well as naval captains face. Of course, Max didn’t choose to be a starship captain; it was thrust upon him. How he copes with losing his best friend will ultimately show if he can rise above and become a true leader, both on the ship and in life.
