The mine you’ve drawn there looks like an old WWII sea mine, in which the shafts that your probe have grabbed are the actual triggers for the mine itself. The trigger is a hell of a place to grab a bomb. On the other hand, there’s no reason for a space-mine to look like a sea mine, so maybe those shafts serve a different purpose, and, besides, it’s just a cartoon.
Heh, either notch it up to this old cartoonist showing something easily identifiable as a mine, the mine was produced by squirrels or this old cartoonist is just lazy…maybe a little of each?
